Ford and Channel 4 Documentaries
Commercial Car Shoot

Ford and Channel 4 Documentaries partnered to produce a series of idents that inspire the ‘Adventurous Spirit’ in all of us, featuring innovative cars from Ford's Electric range (Puma, Kuga, and All-electric Mustang Match-E).

Independent advertising agency Recipe approached 80six to hire our studio space and provide video expertise for the Ford car shoot.

The Challenge:

The challenge was to design a custom LED wall and combine it with projection to create a captivating visual experience that would effectively showcase the cars' features and evoke emotions.

The Solution:

80six proposed a comprehensive solution that seamlessly integrated LED technology and projection, recognising the need for a state-of-the-art production setup.

The 80six team designed and built a 14.4m x 4.2m LED Wall using ROE Visual Carbon panels, carefully considering the pixel pitch of 3.7mm to ensure optimal image quality. The solution also creatively incorporated ROE LED Strips on the sides of the LED Wall, playing mapped video content for wider shots. This approach enabled the production to deliver stunning visuals while maximising the available budget.

80six utilised two Panasonic Laser Projectors to enhance the cinematic look, one dedicated to the car projections and the other used for the detailed close-ups that captured the emotions of the heroic figures in the films.

By employing projected documentary footage, the films effectively highlighted the passion and excitement surrounding Ford's Electric range while establishing an emotional connection with the audience.

"I shot with the wonderful 80six team a couple of weeks ago - they worked to our budget with a real passion to make the work the best it could be. They’re also a really lovely bunch.”

Michael O’Kelly - Director

"The shoot was incredibly smooth. Filming three cars with projection within a day could’ve been a challenge, but we’ve offset that challenge by conducting a pre-light day, which allowed us to practise and prepare each car's setup. All cars were lined up, ready to be moved into position on shoot day, following the Directors’ specific requirements.”
